Louis Robichaud Biography

Born in Montreal in 1963, Louis Robichaud held his first exhibits while still a teenager and has been earning a living from his art ever since. Forever conducting research to hone his craft, Louis has devoted his life to painting, his true passion. He never tires of studying ancient and modern masters and he constantly visits museums both at home and abroad.

Louis gained international recognition with a series of illustrated building facades. He remodels the face of the cities and towns he paints by combining different elements gathered during his excursions and archival research. Beyond the naturalism, masterful composition, and dramatic use of light and shadow apparent in his work, Robichaud’s paintings and graphic works convey affection for the places they illustrate and invite the viewer to discover them.

Louis Robichaud beckons us into his world, sometimes imaginary, sometimes real, and always full of light and nostalgia. His urban scenes composed with great meticulousness and attention to detail, depict both present and past. Full of charm, his images emphasize the importance of the proud urban architectural heritage found in the life of city dwellers. The picturesque nature of the places he renders, and the spirit of the people who live there are subtly drawn out in the various courtyards, shop windows, signs, antique posters, and inscriptions that animate his work. The human presence is very real in the work of Robichaud, even though no figures are typically portrayed. His works have been exhibited and collected across five continents.
